How Long Will Pot Brownies Stay Good at Room Temperature?

If you plan on eating the marijuana-infused brownies within a week, then there is no need to get technical with storage techniques.

If left at room temperature, like on a countertop or in a cupboard, dispensary brownies will last roughly seven days.

Store-bought pot brownies should also come with a best-before date.

If you have made the brownies yourself, you’ll have a little less time to get baked.

Homemade goods typically last five days or less, depending on the ingredients.

Store both homemade and store-bought pot brownies in an airtight container like a zipped bag or Tupperware.

How Long Will Brownies Last in the Fridge?

Ever notice that your dispensary baked goods come carefully stored in a commercial cooler?

If you want to extend the lifespan of your super potent edibles, the next step is to put them in your refrigerator.

Perhaps not surprisingly, cooler temperatures do a lot for the best before date.

When stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator, you can enjoy your pot brownies for up to a month.

This goes for both your homemade variety and those purchased at a dispensary.

How Long Will Brownies Last in the Freezer?

For long-term storage, store your pot edibles in the freezer.

It preserves the quality of the ingredients, and possibly even the cannabinoid content.

A pan of brownies stored inside your deep-freeze, again in an airtight container, should last for at least three months.

If you only like to eat a brownie every once in a while, this is your best bet for long-term storage.

Also, if you tend to make your baked goods in bulk to save time, store the extra pans in the freezer.

When you want a piece or a pan, pull them out and let it thaw naturally at room temperature.

How to Tell If Your Pot Brownies Have Gone Off?

Maybe you’ve found a secret stash of brownies in your refrigerator, or leftover in the back corner of your freezer.

Are they still good?

Room temperature weed brownies will likely start to smell and look moldy, keep an eye out for white or green spots.

Refrigerator brownies can also develop mold over time, but it will take much longer.

They might also start to dry out, and their texture will begin to deteriorate.

Freezer brownies, especially when improperly stored, will develop freezer burn.

Freezer burn is when the moisture is sucked out of the product forming ice crystals around it.

The taste and cannabinoid content will suffer if freezer burn has developed.

If You Suspect a Bad Brownie, Don’t Eat it

The moral of the story is to use your senses to determine if the brownie is still edible.

If it looks moldy, throw it out.

If it smells rotten, it probably is.

If you’ve taken a bite and it tastes “off,” don’t eat the rest of it.

If you’ve made home-baked goods, you have to rely on your good-sense to find out if the brownie has gone past its best before date.

If you suspect your edible isn’t as edible as it once was, do yourself a favor and toss the entire pan.

You can always make more.

How To Make Potent Weed Brownies

Any cannabis enthusiast worth their salt will experience making pot brownies at some point.

But were they any good?

If you need a refresher on how to make delicious, chocolatey cannabis brownies, RuffHouse Studios has put together an excellent video guide.

Not only do they walk you through the basics of cannabis butter, but also the finer points of how to work it into a brownie.

Are There Ingredients to Avoid to Prolong the Lifespan?

There are many ingredients in conventional brownies, which might shorten the lifespan, especially when stored at room temperature.

Dairy products in particular start to go off well before other ingredients, like flour, cocoa, and the cannabis itself.

Certain oils, and butter, other common ingredients in brownies, may also go rancid, but this will take much longer.

Storing brownies in the refrigerator is the best way to ensure that the milk, cream, or other dairy ingredients keep their integrity over the medium-term.

Or, you can also find recipes for vegan brownies, which use coconut milk and other non-animal ingredients instead of dairy.

These brownies will also generally last longer than traditional recipes.

Also, remember, if you see any mold or they taste a little funky, DO NOT EAT THEM.

  1. I’ve been making my own brownies for at least four or five months and I always wrap the individual squares in foil, making sure the whole brownie is covered. Then I keep them in a tuperware container and in a duffle bag in my bedroom as I have a 10 and 8 year old grandkids living with us and don’t want them to find them. I have never had any go bad, knock on wood, but usually they are gone within a two weeks, maybe some batches have gone almost three weeks. I am pretty good about passing them to my friends and therefore I go through them pretty quick. I’m going to find a way to hide them in the refrigerator now that summer is upon us.
